Doane Academy opened its 185th year on Tuesday, September 7th, with the
senior class engaged in the traditional crossing of the Delaware River
from Bristol, PA in canoes. After about twenty minutes they arrived
along the banks of the opposite shore, in Burlington, NJ, their majestic
school perched on the hill above the river, directly in front of them.
Students had met at the Bristol canoe launch site at 7:30am on Tuesday
morning before moving into the river along with the Head of School,
George Sanderson, as well as other chaperones. On the other side of the
river, the seniors were greeted by the entire school community of
students, teachers, parents, and friends of the school on the banks of
the Delaware River, immediately in front of the school. This year sees
the opening the school with its largest enrollment since the mid-1980's,
and all students, including international students from China, Kenya,
Italy, and Croatia, are on campus for 100% in-person learning.
