Fonthill Castle 4th of July | Thursday, July 4, 2024
Join us from 12-4pm on the grounds of Fonthill Castle to celebrate Independence Day with some old-fashioned fun, where guests enjoy a day of fun, food, games, crafts, entertainment and live music. Highlights of the day include the children’s decorated bike parade, wheelbarrow and sack races, tug-of-war, live musicians, and food trucks. Antique bicycles, historic town ball (a precursor to baseball!) and other fun activities make this a day to remember.
Children will kick off the event by participating in the beloved Decorated Bicycle Parade at 12:30 p.m., where all participating children receive cheers from the crowd and a special certificate after pedaling down the historic site’s famed tree-lined driveway.

BCCC Launches 48th Annual Bucks County Poet Laureate Competition
The Bucks County Poet Laureate Program is seeking the 2024 Laureate. The postmark deadline for submission to the competition is Friday, September 13, 2024.
The winner of the competition will receive a $500 honorarium, a plaque from the Bucks County Commissioners, and a reading at Bucks County Community College in the fall with the previous year’s laureate, Tara Tamburello.
Entrants to the competition must be Bucks County residents and 18 years or older. Poetry of any kind is welcome. The entry requires 10 poems, any style, form, or length. All work must be original, published or unpublished, typewritten or word-processed, one poem per page, in black ink. Poems and entry form must be submitted online at bucks.edu/poetlaureateentry

This year's annual Newtown Business Association Newtown Antique & Classic Auto Show is back on State Street! A. Marlyn Moyer, Jr. Scholarship Foundation Application Deadline EXTENDED TO 7/6/2024
The A. Marlyn Moyer, Jr. Scholarship Foundation announces that it will grant several partial scholarships for studies at colleges, universities, technical schools, nursing schools, and other accredited post-secondary institutions during the 2023-2024 academic year. To be eligible, applicants must be graduating high school seniors or other persons enrolling full time in post-secondary schools for the first time. They must be residents of Bucks County, PA; are academically well qualified for the school they plan to attend; have a record of involvement in school, community, religious and/or other activities (especially as a leader); have been involved in giving service to others; and have financial need. (Gainful employment may be considered as a substitute for extensive involvement in leadership and service activities.)
Completed applications must be emailed or arrive by July 6, 2024. From among the applications, the Foundation will select those best qualified for scholarships in July and winners will be notified shortly thereafter. Typically, six to eight scholarships are awarded averaging between $2,500 to $5,000 dollars.

Grundy Library’s Dedicated Director Resigns After 26 Years to Become CEO of Bucks County Free Library
Dana Barber, Grundy Library Director, has accepted the position of CEO at Bucks County Free Library. On behalf of all the Foundation, Library, and Museum staff at Grundy, we wish Dana the best of luck in her new position. Beginning her career in 1998 as a reference assistant, Dana has a long history of serving the residents of Lower Bucks County. As a Levittown native, Dana has a deep understanding of this community and has been one of its strongest advocates for nearly 30 years. Dana’s tenure at Grundy has been marked by numerous achievements and memorable moments.Dana’s departure marks the end of an era for Grundy Library, but it is also the beginning of a new chapter for the Bucks County Free Library. Her passion for the community and her extensive experience will undoubtedly lead to great successes in her new role.

As part of its annual Independence Day celebration, Washington Crossing Historic Park invites classic car owners to compete in the sixth annual Rebels & Redcoats Classic Car Show on Sunday, July 7 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Spectators need not register or purchase tickets. This unique show features American, French, British and German cars, representing the four countries involved in the Revolutionary War. Classic show-condition cars from model years 1999 and earlier are welcome in this class. There will also be an open class for cars of any make, model, and year. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each country category will be determined by peer judging. 7/27 - Wine on the Waterfront
Wine on the Waterfront will return to the banks of the Delaware River on Saturday, July 27 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The event will feature live jazz music by the Hailey Brinnel Quartet, samples of wine from a number of Pennsylvania and New Jersey wineries, with additional wine and food for purchase. Bring your picnic blanket or chairs, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the waterfront. Come to the Big Red Barn on Snipes Farm to buy our organic produce, plants, and other products every Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Visit our animals: chickens, ducks, goats, bunnies and more! Our vegetables are certified organic, which means we use no GMO, synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We also carry local honey made by the bees here at Snipes Farm bee hives. We have pure maple syrup from Journey's End farm, fruit butters, and whatever seasonal herbs are being harvested.

7/28 - Quakers Behaving Badlye Brewing Co. Presents: Rembrandt Beer at Pennsbury Manor
On Sunday July 28th from 1 - 4 PM, Pennsbury Manor's historic brew club will be demonstrating a recipe for "Rembrandt beer," which is meant to imitate the color of beer that Rembrandt depicted in "The Prodigal Son in the Tavern."
This event is perfect for art enthusiasts and beer lovers alike! Who said Dutch Masters and beer don't go together? This program is included with admission to Pennsbury Manor. Tours are offered at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 pm.
