Bucks County High School Scribes Encouraged to Enter Poetry Contest
Bucks County Community College, which has been nurturing writers for more than 50 years, calls on creative young people to enter the 35th annual Bucks County High School Poet of the Year contest for the chance to win $300. Students have until Friday, March 11 to submit three original poems, according to Dr. Ethel Rackin, director of the Bucks County Poet Laureate Program, which runs the Bucks County High School Poet of the Year contest.The contest is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who live in Bucks County or attend a Bucks County high school. Home-schooled students may also enter. Previous winners are not eligible. In addition to the prize money, winners receive a proclamation from the Bucks County Commissioners, and the opportunity to read at a public reception. What’s Happening at Snipes Farm

New Bagel Vendor at Wrightstown Winter Farmers Market
WELCOME NEW VENDOR: Knockout Baking Company
Started back in May 2021, with the idea to bring traditional style bagels to the local community, all made from scratch using the highest quality ingredients, including local grains from Castle Valley Mill in Doylestown, PA. Owner Phil Foster began by making sourdough bread, dropping off loaves to a small circle of friends and family, and soon found he truly enjoyed the process of baking and sharing bread with those around him. What began with bread turned into bagels, and soon rolled over into pretzels, muffins, and other baked goods. This Saturday Phil will be bringing plain, everything, sesame and pretzel bagels, and his pretzel varieties are plain, Buffalo ranch, cinnamon sugar, everything, and honey mustard and onion - yum! Newtown Township Parks & Recreation 2022 Summer Camp Employment
Newtown Township Parks & Recreation is looking for staff who are Enthusiastic, Responsible, Positive & Creative! Camp dates are Monday, June 27, 2022 through Friday, August 5, 2022 (No camp July 1st or 4th). All camp staff are required to be available for the entire six weeks and will be expected to attend every day. Staff training and camp setup is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, June 23rd and 24th and is mandatory for all camp employees and volunteers. CPR and First Aid Training will take place on Wednesday, June 22nd, if you are not certified. Salary:
Camp Management (college degree in teaching) - starting at $14 per hour
Senior Counselor (18+) - starting at $11 per hour
Counselors (15+) - starting at $9 per hour
Substitute Counselors (15+) - starting at $9 per hour

The Trent House Association presents a virtual talk on Timbuctoo, a community of  formerly enslaved and free Black people in Burlington County at 7:00 p.m via Zoom. Previously unpublished details about the lives of antebellum free Black people in southern New Jersey will be presented in this discussion about Timbuctoo. 2/11 - Rhapsody in Black, BCCC Newtown
A one-man show that explores LeLand’s personal journey to understand and eventually transcend racism in America. We follow his life story -- from an underprivileged childhood in the ghettos of McKeesport, Pennsylvania to teenage experiments with crime and drugs to scholastic achievement and an acting career that land adult LeLand in situations where he is virtually the only African-American in the room. His efforts to cope with the various psychological effects of consistently being marked “The Other” is recounted in remarkable and exquisitely moving detail, guaranteed to leave lasting impressions. The Yardley Historical Association Book Swap will be held on Saturday, Feb 12, 2022 from 1-4 p.m. The Swap will be held inside the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 West Afton Avenue. 2/15 - 100th Anniversary of the Bryn Athyn Train Wreck of 1921
Join the Newtown Historic Association at the newly renovated Newtown Theater and learn about the Bryn Athyn Train wreck. On December 5, 1921, a horrific head-on collision between two passenger trains of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad occurred, killing 26 passengers and crew members, and injuring 70 others. Most of the casualties came from the Newtown, Churchville, and Southampton communities. On the 100-year anniversary, learn more about this catastrophe that led the Interstate Commerce Commission to recommend major changes in passenger railcar construction. The evening will begin with a special viewing of the documentary film, “The Bryn Athyn Train Wreck of 1921” by Thomas Lynskey, a local historical filmmaker. The movie will be followed by a lecture by David Rowland, President of the Old York Road Historical Society. Mr. Rowland has been researching and lecturing on the Bryn Athyn Train Wreck for the past 15 years. Following the lecture, both Mr. Lynskey and Mr. Rowland will be available to answer questions from the audience. This will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn more about this local tragedy and its connection to the Newtown area. Admission is $5 per person; all proceeds from this special event will be donated to the Newtown Historic Association and the Newtown Theater. 2/25 - Back Handspring Clinic For Ages 6+

2/25 - Bakithi Kumalo’s "Graceland Experience" Performance
This one-night-only concert will feature a tribute band that includes Bakithi Kumalo, best known for his fretless bass playing on Simon’s 1986 album Graceland. The Graceland Experience band features Kumalo and friends performing the entire Graceland album, along with a selection of world music. Doors open at 7 PM and the concert starts at 8 PM.
The concession stand will be open. Beer and wine will be available for purchase before the show and during intermission.
