Volunteers Needed at Friends Home and Village in Newtown
As we age, remaining active and filled with purpose improves health, memory, and emotional wellbeing. To that end, Friends Home & Village could use your help. Thanks to our new Community Wellness and Engagement Coordinator, Ashley Opitz, our residents are enjoying new, healthy and meaningful activities each week! We could use the help of volunteers to conduct activities and keep this momentum going.

7/23-7/25: The Junkyard, hosted by HV Arts Council
The Junkyard, an upcycle art exhibition, hosted by the Hopewell Valley Arts Council, will prove once and for all that "one man's trash is another man's treasure". Artists' creations will transform Woolsey Park into a temporary sculpture garden from Friday, July 23 to Sunday, July 25, reimaging trash into art -- like plastic bottles, metal tools and nails, Styrofoam, wood pallets, discarded books, car parts.
Open for one weekend only, the Junkyard celebrates creativity while raising awareness about the need to reduce in our throw-away culture and rethink disposability by upcycling, prolonging these items' usefulness and diverting them from a landfill.

Virtual Pet Portrait Contest Through July 19, 2021
Do you have an awesome pet? Create a portrait of your pet (or any animal) to participate in our Pet Portrait Contest! Participants will be able to create their portrait in any media format (painting, drawing, photography, etc.). Renovations Underway Around Washington Crossing Historic Park
THE HISTORIC VILLAGE:
The General Store and other Taylorsville buildings along Route 532 are being renovated (pictured above). Windows have been removed and will be replaced and stucco has been removed in several areas to test the underlying stone.
BOWMAN’S HILL TOWER:
The road leading to Bowman’s Hill Tower will be repaved in the near future.

Dynamix Gymanstics Summer Session 2021

Bucks County Community College Launches Summer Bridge Program
Bucks County Community College is launching a new Summer Bridge Program, which is designed to ease and support the transition to college by providing students with the academic skills and social resources needed to succeed in the college environment. The program will allow students to get a head-start on their academic coursework in a 7-week program at the Newtown campus. Orientation is the week of June 28, 2021. Bucks County Wine Trail Passports
Now through Aug. 31, wine enthusiasts can make a day, weekend or several outings of sampling locally made wines at the five participating wineries. 7/7 - Farm Tour at Spring Creek Farm in Solebury
This is part of an annual series of popular farm evenings that introduce consumers to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto our tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers markets, farm stands, and other venues. The farm evenings include an optional family picnic and socially distanced tour of the farm. There will be no potluck meal this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of our traditional farm-to-table potlucks, we are inviting families and small groups to enjoy a picnic meal at 6 pm on the farm. Over the past year, camping has become one of the most popular outdoor activities for individuals and families. If you are new to outdoor recreation or would like to learn more about camping, outdoor ethics, or other outdoor activities in general, plan to join park naturalist Matt Truesdale at Washington Crossing Historic Park during Campout Demo Day on Saturday, July 10 from 11 AM to 2 PM. The New Hope Summer Concerts are held Saturdays during July at 7pm at the New Hope Solebury Upper Elementary School Parking lot. Part of the New Hope Music Series, the free concerts feature local New Hope musicians along with a short opening set by NHS music students and teachers. The self sustainable SLNC Earthship will be open to the public today from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm with tours. Stop by to visit and learn about these interesting, sustainable structures! Due to CDC and PA Government Guidelines, when visiting the SLNC Earthship, please wear a mask while inside the Earthship, and practice “social distancing.” Please be aware that we need to limit the number of Guests inside the Earthship at one time, and that you may be asked to wait to enter or to return a little later. Delight in the splendor of a guided historic evening tour at Fonthill Castle. Fonthill Castle was the home of Henry Chapman Mercer and an early example of reinforced concrete architecture. 7/18 - Picnic in the Vineyard
Grab a blanket and head to Washington Crossing Vineyard and Winery for a casual picnic lunch. Includes a tour, a basket full of goodies and a bottle of wine. Find yourself a shady spot and take in the vineyard views while you sip and snack!

7/19 - Washington Crossing Park’s July Book Club Meeting: Ten Crucial Days
The July meeting of the Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club is set for Monday, July 19 at 5:30 PM. This meeting will be held virtually using Zoom. Registration is required. To register, please visit DCNR's website. Zoom meeting details will be provided upon registration. Museum curator Kimberly McCarty will lead a discussion of the book club's newest selection, Ten Crucial Days: Washington's Vision for Victory Unfolds by William L. Kidder. Participants should be prepared to discuss the Introduction through Chapter 4. Book club meetings/discussions are free and open to all.

7/20 - Grundy Walking Club
Join us for a one mile walk through historic Bristol Borough on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Participants can enter for a chance to win a Dick's Sporting Goods gift card. Open to ages 18-plus. Due to ongoing construction on the immediate Grundy Library property, the walk will begin and end from the Library's parking lot located at the corner of Dorrance and Radcliffe Streets; access to the lot is made via Dorrance Street. 7/24 - Introduction to Kayaking Class
This two-hour class, led by Kayaking Instructor, Cameron Calista, introduces you to the parts of a kayak, how to hold and move a kayak paddle, how to enter and exit a kayak, ways to keep your balance while kayaking and, of course, how to get around on the water in a kayak. The Introduction to Kayaking Class takes place right on the waters of Silver Lake at Silver Lake Park in Bristol PA. Participants under the age of 18 years old must have a Participating/Paying Parent/Guardian accompanying them on this program. MINIMUM age for this program is 14 years. Our Kayaks are best suited for people between the height of 4ft 10in and 6ft 2in, and between 90 lbs. and 250 lbs. Start spreading the news! Vocal impressionist Tony Sands will bring Frank Sinatra back to the Newtown Theatre stage on Saturday, July 24. This show is a must-see for any Sinatra fan! 7/24 - Moonlight Kayaking Excursion (6:30-9:30pm)
SLNC’s Moonlight Kayak Excursion is for kayakers who have kayaked at least once before & are at least 18 years of age.
We will start at the edge of Silver Lake at Silver Lake Park in Bristol. Once in the water, we will travel up Silver Lake into Magnolia Lake, where we will dock on the island in the middle of Magnolia Lake. On the island, we will start a campfire and roast marshmallows. After all the marshmallows are gone, we will embark on our journey back, letting the moonlight guide our way. Each kayaker will be able to take in the lovely sights of Silver Lake bathed in moonlight. Parent/Guardian accompanying them on this program. MINIMUM age for this program is 14 years. Register.

7/24 - Dendrology Hike
Dendrology is the study of trees. On Saturday, July 24 at 11 AM, join the park naturalist for a leisurely walk around the main park area while learning how to identify native tree species of Pennsylvania! Registration is required by emailing mtruesdale@pa.gov by 4 PM on July 23. The meeting place will be provided upon registration.

7/28 - Virtual Presentation: Henry Chapman Mercer
In this one-hour virtual multimedia program, Mercer Museum & Fonthill Castle educators bring the stories of Henry Mercer and his concrete castles to life through film clips, historic archives and modern-day images. Located in Doylestown, Bucks County, PA, the Mercer Museum & Fonthill Castle are two historic castles that celebrate the life and legacy of Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930), American archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramicist and scholar. Fonthill Castle was home to Henry Chapman Mercer and served as a showplace for his collection of tiles and prints. Fonthill Castle features Mercer’s renowned, handcrafted ceramic tiles designed at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement. 6pm-7pm. Advance registration is required.

8/1 - Road Rally for The New Hope Automobile Show
The New Hope Automobile Show Road Rally kicks off at 10:00 am Sunday, August 1, 2021 from the New Hope-Solebury High School, 180 West Bridge Street, New Hope, PA. This lead-in to The New Hope Automobile Show is sponsored by Solebury Parks and Recreation. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 9:30 a.m. to receive instructions.
Cars of all kinds are welcome to participate. Of course, being The New Hope Automobile Show we encourage people to bring their classic cars, but your everyday car will work just fine. Bring along a friend or friends who can help you answer a few silly questions. Pencils and a clipboard might be a good idea too.
