Rabbi Yudy Shemtov’s fourth annual Bubby's Cook-Off will feature an all-star cast of BBQ chefs and a collection of rare aged scotch on Thursday, June 8th beginning at 6 p.m., at the Glazier Jewish Center, located at 25 North Street in Newtown, PA. 6/7 - Fifth Grade Walking Tour Of Newtown
The Newtown Historic Association will conduct the annual Fifth Grade Walking Tour on Wednesday, June 7th begins at 9:30 am and runs until noon. Approximately 400 children from Goodnoe Elementary School, St. Andrew’s Elementary School, and St. Albert the Great School will take a self guided walking tour through the Borough and Township visiting 10 historic sites - this tour goes on - rain or shine. The tour begins at the Old Presbyterian Church on Sycamore St. and then continues in the borough - Newtown Movie Theatre, District Court, Newtown Borough Hall/Police Station, Bird in Hand Tavern, Justice House, Newtown Friends Meeting, Newtown Fire Association, Newtown Library Company and the Half Moon (Court Inn). Join us for our 32nd annual memorial weekend to all those who served in all wars and the sacrifices they made. The weekend begins Friday morning at 9am when we need volunteers to help us place over 65,000 flags in the shape of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington DC. Each flag represents an American killed missing in action during the Vietnam War. Saturday is our free concert and day of reflection with bands starting at noon. Sunday is our motorcycle rally starting at noon at the Bristol Township Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Memorial and Repatriation Ceremony starting at 1pm. Stanley Saperstein will perform a one man presentation as Francis Hopkinson, New Jersey Signer of the Declaration of Independence. 6/17 - Philadelphia Neurofibromatosis (NF) Walk and 5K Run
This year, the Philadelphia NF Walk and 5K Run will take place at Doylestown’s Central Park from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature a two-mile walk, a 5K run on the park’s newest certified course, a raffle, an NF heroes parade and recognition ceremony, music and a picnic lunch. A few well-known superheroes will even be on hand for photos. NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and can also lead to blindness, deafness, learning disabilities, disfigurement, bone abnormalities, disabling pain and cancer. A wide variety of food trucks will serve up delicious fare at the first-ever Newtown Food Truck Fest on Sunday, June 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Council Rock North High School.
