What’s in the Name “Yardley?,” Yardley Historical Association
The Yardley Historical Association will host a program, What’s in the Name “Yardley?,” on Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. It will be held in the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 West Afton Avenue. How did the town of Yardley get its name? Historian Charlie Thomforde has the answers. Moving English families thousands of miles over the ocean. Uncertainty on the sea. Putting down new roots. An epidemic. The vision and energy of one immigrant, who guaranteed that his family name would persist over the centuries. The convoluted story will be told, and on display will be three of the original 17th century purchase documents that were contributed to the Yardley Historical Association by a Yardley family descendent. This presentation is free, and the public is welcome to attend For more information about the program and other activities of the Yardley Historical Association, call 215-208-1154, e-mail info@yardleyhistory.org, or visit www.yardleyhistory.org.
