Our fall lecture series is underway! Don’t miss Dr. David Hsiung’s presentation, Environmental Legacies: How the War of Independence Affected the Natural World in Predictable and Surprising Ways, on Sunday, September 7 at 1:30 PM. This fascinating talk will explore how the Revolutionary War reshaped the environment in both lasting and unexpected ways, from deforestation and animal raids to the hidden dangers of lead musket balls left behind on battlefields.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Benjamin Carp on Sunday, October 5 at 1:30 PM for The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution. This event examines the mysterious fire that consumed much of New York City shortly after the British occupation, a story filled with intrigue, espionage, and unanswered questions. Later in the month, on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00 PM, Zara Anishanslin will present The Painter’s Fire: A Forgotten History of the Artists Who Championed the American Revolution in partnership with the David Center at the American Philosophical Society. This program spotlights artists who wielded brushes, canvases, and wax as tools of resistance, inspiring rebellion and shaping the cultural identity of the new nation.
Each of these lectures promises to offer new insights into Revolutionary history and its wider legacies. Registration is required for all programs, which may be attended in person or, where noted, virtually.
