Our second photo exhibition of the year, the “Not Your Run of the Mill” Photo Show, is presented by the Phillips' Mill Photo Committee members, who are a blend of seasoned veterans and energetic newcomers. Now in its sixth year, the show shines a light on the work of our volunteers, who work so hard every year to produce the prestigious annual juried Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition.
The “Not Your Run of the Mill Photo Show” went from being a dream to a reality in 2021 as a response to COVID-19 guidelines. Recognizing that producing a juried show with prints on the wall was not a possibility during the pandemic, the Photo Committee opted instead to produce an online show that would be nothing less than a “potent force of digital imagery.” And the “Not Your Run of the Mill” Photo Show was born!
Each of the 29 image makers represented in that inaugural show had a personal and emotional connection and commitment to the broad professional craft of photographic arts. That is still true today. The group’s core hallmark to present the strongest of personal work is clearly reflected in each artist’s work. Some refined, developed and went deeper into a look, one they may have constructed over decades, while others experimented with new work.
What makes this show so unique is that artists are given the freedom to use photography to speak at length with the infectious visual medium. A declarative statement, a soft emotion, a composite or creation that stirs the soul or ignites a memory/dream, all wonderful in their freshness.
