Pay What You Wish (Friend: Free, Supporter: $10, Benefactor: $20) Inspired by the rich tradition of Dutch vanitas paintings, Peter Paone: Not So Still Life showcases 40 captivating works that combine unexpected elements—cakes, cats, skeletons, birds, and fish—into surreal, theatrical compositions. These paintings challenge conventional still-life expectations and invite viewers to reflect on themes of mortality, symbolism, and the absurdity of everyday life. Join Bill Perthes, Bernard C. Watson Director of Adult Education at the Barnes Foundation, for a virtual exploration of Paone’s work and his deep connection to Violette de Mazia, a pivotal figure in the Barnes Foundation’s educational legacy.
