MORRISVILLE, PA – ActorsNET of Bucks County is proud to announce its upcoming production of EVELYN IN PURGATORY, a delightful and witty comedy by acclaimed playwright Topher Payne. The show will run from Friday, October 10th to Sunday, October 26th.
?
Directed by Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski, EVELYN IN PURGATORY is an eye-opening and funny drama about a group of public school teachers who find themselves in the disciplinary limbo of the “rubber room.” While they await their fate, they form an unlikely alliance, rediscover old passions, and bond over their shared situation. The play is a mix of humor and sharp character observation, exploring the frustrating world of public education and inviting the audience to empathize with the struggles of undervalued public servants.
?
"We are thrilled to bring this poignant comedy to the stage," says Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski, ActorsNET's Executive Director and director of the production. "The show is not only incredibly funny, but it also provides a meaningful look at the challenges and bonds of those who dedicate their lives to teaching. It’s a heartfelt and relatable story that our audience will love.”
?
The talented ensemble cast features Charlotte Kirkby as Evelyn Reid, Caity Brown as Candace Metzger, Shelley Bromberg as Lila Watkins, T.C. Tropiano as Toby Fleming, Nicholas Pecht as Fred Disalvo, Juanita Vega DeJoseph as Roberta Burke, and Carole Mancini as Atwood.
?
Charlotte Kirkby, who plays the title character, notes the play's enduring relevance. "One reason I love this play is because, even though it is set in 2008, it is still so relevant and sympathetic to the challenges that teachers face today," says Kirkby. "I am so grateful to be working with multiple educators on this show, including Maryalice. Her experience in the classroom adds an extra layer of empathy to her direction. I cannot wait for people to see this witty, thought-provoking play."
