Capitol Debate

Capitol Debate Summer Camps teach the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation, enabling kids to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. Our debate camps teach students to structure arguments, prepare debate cases, research evidence, write rebuttal briefs, deliver speeches and refute opponent arguments. Capitol Debate's goal is to enrich the social, intellectual, and academic lives of our students through the art of communication. Since 2006, our academic camps have grown to serve thousands of students and are now hosted across the United States on over 15 campuses.

Bucks County Book Festival is Looking For Volunteers
Passionate about books? Interested in collaborating with authors? Seize the opportunity! The Bucks County Book Festival is seeking volunteers to contribute to the festival's ongoing success and future growth.

High School Scribes Encouraged to Enter 37th Annual Poetry Contest
Bucks County high school students in grades 9–12 can submit three poems by March 15 for the chance to win $300
Bucks County Community College, which has been nurturing writers for more than 50 years, calls on creative young people to enter the 37th annual Bucks County High School Poet of the Year contest for the chance to win $300.
Students have until Friday, March 15 to submit three original poems, according to Dr. Ethel Rackin, director of the Bucks County Poet Laureate Program, which runs the Bucks County High School Poet of the Year contest.
The contest is open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who live in Bucks County or attend a Bucks County high school. Home-schooled students may also enter.
In addition to the prize money, the winner receives a proclamation from the Bucks County Commissioners, and the opportunity to read at a public reception. Runners-up and finalists in the contest will also be invited to read at the public event.

Bicycle Repair Stations Coming To 2 Bucks County Parks This Spring
Bicycle repair stations are coming to two Bucks County parks this spring thanks to a grant awarded to the TMA Bucks Foundation through the Bucks County Tourism Grants program.
Through the grant, TMA will be purchasing bicycle repair stations for Core Creek Park and Peace Valley Park, both operated by the Bucks County parks system, to enhance the overall visitor experience and significantly benefit the community for everyone who travels to, lives, and works here. TMA Bucks Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, advances educational, charitable and safety-related transportation programs and initiatives that benefit the Bucks County community at large. Capital Grille In Newtown is Underway
The new 8,000-square-foot, 236-seat restaurant will be the first Capital Grille in Bucks County and the fourth in Pennsylvania. "Capital Grille is Darden's flagship restaurant. Darden is very selective as to where it opens a Capital Grille," said Kozar. "There are only 63 nationwide.
The Capital Grille, which opened its first restaurant in Providence, Rhode Island in 1990, is best known for its expertly prepared steaks, which are dry-aged in-house for 18 to 24 days and then hand-cut by the restaurant's on-premise butcher

2/18 - George Washington’s Birthday Party
Come celebrate George Washington’s 292nd birthday on Sunday, February 18 from 11 AM to 2 PM at Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA)!
During the day, various children’s activities will be offered. At 1:45 PM, visitors will gather in the park’s visitor center to sing happy birthday to George and watch him use his sword to cut his cake, which is donated by The Caketeria in Newtown. Admission is free.
Children 12 and under are encouraged to bring handmade birthday cards to the party to give to the General. They can also bring their entries for the park’s “Let’s Draw George” drawing contest. Entries can depict George Washington in any medium (pencil, crayon, paint, etc.) or style – creativity is encouraged. 2/18 - Rainbows Of Healing Medicine Drum Making Workshop

Open to Adults and Children!
The drum is a part of native heritage from tribal cultures all over the world. This single sided drum is crafted using a wooden hoop or frame and a stretched rawhide head and lacing. Covered on only one side, the back is laced to form the symbol of a medicine wheel with the four cardinal directions that also serve as a hand hold. Great for drumming circles and meditation!
In this workshop you will be supplied everything you need to create your own frame drum and accompanying beater. While you are making your creations Valarie and Ian will teach you the care and feeding of your drum, as well as how to use them in healing and cleansing ceremonies.
We will begin with a Drum Journey to connect to the Heartbeat of the Drum, and then start the process of creating our drums and beaters. After creating the drum, we’ll celebrate its birth with a special ceremony. Birthing a drum is an intense process, one not easily forgotten. 2/20 - Portraying George Washington: An Evening with John Godzieba
John Godzieba has portrayed Geoge Washington since 2009 and serves in this role at Washington Crossing Historic Park.
During his February 20 presentation and Q&A, Godzieba will discuss Washington’s time in Bucks County, little known facts about the general’s life and character, how Washington’s birthday was celebrated through the years, the research that goes into Godzieba’s portrayal and uniform, and his personal experience portraying Washington at the park’s annual crossing reenactments and many other occasions.

Comedian Jimmy Cash, popularly known as “America’s Favorite Janitor,” will appear at the historic Newtown Theatre on Friday, February 23 at 8:30 PM.
Known as the @janitorwithstamina on TikTok where his hilarious videos have more than 30 million views, Cash’s comedy draws from his experience as a father of a teenage daughter, an uncertain number of stepchildren, sobriety, and 18 years as a public school janitor. He can be seen performing stand up at night to stay grounded. He has worked with some of the biggest acts in comedy and currently opens for comedian Bob Marley.
