The Gingerbread Competition & Display at Peddler’s Village is a feast for the eyes with more than 100 creative and whimsical entries crafted by the public in different categories. The gingerbread entries will be on exhibit during shopping hours from November 17 through January 13, 2024 in the Visitor & Event Center. Admission is free.

Sock Drive!
Clean, well-fitting socks are a vital part of keeping feet healthy, yet this simple piece of clothing is anything but simple to someone experiencing homelessness.
The Birches at Newtown is partnering with its in-house podiatrist Lawrence C. Kalker, M.S., D.P.M, P.C., to collect brand-new socks. A fresh pair of socks provides much-needed warmth, comfort, and relief to those in need.
From Nov. 2 through Dec. 30, The Birches, located at 70 Durham Road, will be a drop-off site for new, quality socks in various sizes for men, women, and children. The collection will benefit the Valley Youth House, Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter, and Coalition to Shelter and Support the Homeless. This annual program has collected over 13,000 pairs of brand-new socks.
If you drop off a pair of new socks at The Birches (this location only), you’ll receive a free scratch-off lottery ticket during Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Must be 18 years or older.

Victorian Holiday House

Santa’s Mailbox: Drop-off Letters to the North Pole at the Newtown Athletic Club te
Starting Monday, November 24th, the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC) encourages and welcomes the community to drop-off their handwritten letters to Santa Claus at The Club. Santa’s mailbox, located out front of the main entrance of the NAC, will be accepting letters through December 24th, 2023.

Take a Ride Through History on the Ten Crucial Days Bus Tour
From the crossing of the Delaware through the subsequent American and British military engagements at Trenton, Princeton, and areas in-between, this tour will bring to life the history changing events of Washington's army between December 25, 1776 – January 3, 1777. The public bus tours will be offered on December 9th and December 29th, 2023 as well as January 6th, 2024 from 9 AM to 4 PM. It begins and ends at Washington Crossing, PA.
Historical interpreters Roger Williams and Larry Kidder will tell the remarkable story of the ten days that breathed crucial new life into the apparently expiring American Revolution. The events are discussed in the context of the local, strategically important central New Jersey towns, villages, and farms. Registration is required.

12/9 - Jesus Christ Superstar Film 50th Anniversary Celebration, Villa Victoria Academy
The Landmark Motion Picture, Jesus Christ Superstar, was released in 1973. This year is the 50th anniversary of the release of the film. Original cast members have been touring the USA for the past year, holding movie screenings and hosting meet and greets with fans. The final 50th anniversary showing of the movie will take place at the Villa Victoria Academy Performing Arts Center on December 9, 2023. Those in attendance will share a private viewing with four members of the Original Cast: Larry Marshall (Simon) Kurt Yaghjian (Annas), Bob Bingham (Ciaphas) and Ted Neeley (Jesus) will all attend and give audience members the opportunity to obtain autographs and photos. This is the final Cast Reunion scheduled for the 50th anniversary year.

The Old Library by Lake Afton is always at its very best during the holidays. The highlight will be the ever-larger model train layout with tooting engines, clattering cabooses, and a trolley. With familiar buildings, landmarks, and billboards, the railroad scene evokes Yardley’s past and present.
Standing tall will be a fir tree decorated with handmade ornaments that are reminiscent of a winter day on Lake Afton – skaters, mittens, snowflakes, geese, fish, and turtles.
Old-fashioned cutout sugar cookies and hot cider will be offered, and “Yardley” gifts, including the new flour sack tea towels and book diaries, ceramic ornaments, and paper goods of all sorts can be purchased.

12/10 - First Crossing of 2023
Each December, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats.The first opportunity to witness the reenactment is Sunday, December 10, from 11 AM to 3 PM in the Washington Crossing Historic Park’s Historic Village. The actual crossing begins at approximately 1 PM.

12/11 - Illuminated Classical Christmas Concert
The historic Newtown Theatre will present its third annual Illuminated Classical Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 12 at 8 PM. This one-of-a-kind concert will be illuminated by hundreds of elegant white lights and feature string musicians from the Newtown Chamber Orchestra.
The concert will include well-known classical works such as Overture to Messiah, Canon in D, and Fantasia in Greensleeves as well as some holiday songs of a more popular nature such as Let the Bells Ring, Traditions of Christmas, Faeries (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies), and Joy to the World. The night will also include a special guest narration of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas with orchestra accompaniment.

The historic Newtown Theatre will present its second annual Very Jazzy Christmas featuring an all-star lineup of area jazz musicians on Tuesday, December 19 at 8 PM.

The historic Newtown Theatre will present its third annual “Elf for Grownups” movie screening on Friday, December 22. Doors open at 7 PM and the movie starts at 8 PM.
In the hour leading up to the movie, guests will enjoy one complimentary drink (beer, wine, canned cocktail, or a signature Elf-themed cocktail), free popcorn, a trivia contest, and a costume contest. Each December, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats.
