Sponsor a Sheep at Washington Crossing Park
As temperatures drop, the Thompson-Neely Farmstead team is preparing for another winter. We welcomed two new lambs to our flock of 13 sheep in July. That may not sound like many, but they require a lot of care – care that is largely supported by generous donors through our popular Sponsor a Sheep program. In addition to foraging 8-12 pounds of grass and plants every day, each sheep at the Thompson-Neely Farmstead needs supplies like hay, grain, and supplemental minerals. They also require veterinary care, medications, fresh straw bedding, and the loving attention of the park’s farmstead manager, Ross. You can help defray these costs by sponsoring a sheep.

R. Scott Bomboy, author of “Wooden Treasures: The Story of Bucks County’s Covered Bridges,” will speak at the historic Newtown Theatre about his book at 7:30 p.m. Bomboy spent five years on the book, which accounts for the 51 covered bridges once located in the county. Today, only 12 such bridges remain, including the Schofield Ford Covered Bridge in Tyler State Park. Most of Bucks County’s covered bridges were gone by 1940, as progress led to their demolition. It fell to a small group of people to save the remaining bridges for future generations to enjoy.
Bomboy is a Bucks County resident, historian, and preservationist who has written frequently about Bucks County’s past. This special evening is presented by the Newtown Historic Association and the Newtown Theatre. Proceeds will benefit both non-profit organizations. www.newtownhistoric.org
