Casa Superhero 5K Brought Together Volunteers and Companies to Help Abused and Neglected Children

The CASA Superhero 5K Run and 1 Mile Run/Walk at Washington Crossing State Park on June 11 rallied close to one hundred local volunteers and several corporate teams to raise funds to help kids in foster care find permanent and safe homes.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties holds the Superhero 5K on an annual basis and draws participants from municipalities all over the region. “There was a real feeling of the community coming together to support our most vulnerable children by supporting CASA’s advocacy of abused and neglected children in Mercer and Burlington Counties. From the parents running with their small kids in strollers, the CASA staff and board member who ran the 5K, to the representation of runners across the life span – we had a great day to raise awareness of our mission,” stated Katherine Carmichael, Executive Director of CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties.
The mission of CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties is to train and supervise community volunteers, appointed by the Family Court, to advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect. Our dedicated volunteers strive to ensure the emotional, physical and educational well-being of these children while they reside in foster homes or residential facilities. The ultimate goal of our volunteers is to help establish a safe, stable and permanent home for each child we serve.  You can learn more about CASA at
