The Girl Who Wore Freedom

Tuesday June 4, 2024
7:30 PM

In honor of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the historic Newtown Theatre will screen “The Girl Who Wore Freedom” on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:30 PM.

This inspiring documentary shares the untold stories of D-Day from the French men, women and children who lived through the German occupation and Allied liberation of Normandy. Countless D-Day documentaries focus on the soldiers, but few, if any, focus on the experience of the local citizens. What did they and their families experience during the four years of Nazi occupation? What are their memories of the summer of 1944?

One little girl’s story exemplifies how the French saw – and still remember – the bravery and heroism of the American GIs. Her name is Dany Patrix (“The Girl Who Wore Freedom”) and she is the thread that weaves viewers through this story. People like Dany still remember and appreciate the sacrifices that were made and celebrate these memories annually.
Doors open at 7 PM and the film starts at 7:30.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $6 for Newtown Theatre members.
