Gathering Baskets with Karen Wychock

Working over wooden molds, in the methods of the Shakers, students will be weaving a gathering basket just in time for their summer blooms and veggies. Students will choose what size basket that they want to weave. The gathering basket will be made of a combination of reed and oak. The body of the basket will be woven of reed with oak handles and runners. The rims will be made of pre-bent reed. May 28, 2022 9:30am – 3:30pm (Ages 18+)

Wheat & Sheep Day at Washington Crossing Historic Park

Explore life on a colonial-era farmstead at Washington Crossing Historic Park’s “Wheat & Sheep Day,” being held on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park’s Thompson-Neely House & Farmstead. During this event, attendees will see sheep being shorn of their winter wool coats and be able to follow the process of washing and carding the wool and spinning it into yarn. Tours will also be given of the restored Thompson-Neeley Grist Mill. Shearings are held every hour and mill tours and held on the half hour. This is a “pay-what-you-wish” event (recommended fee is $7), but registration is required. Attendance is limited to 150 people. Register at: WashingtonCrossingPark.org/event/wheat-and-sheep-day. Delaware River Kayaking

After an on-land strategy and safety session, participants will launch from the northern most point of Washington Crossing Historic Park and kayak 5 miles to the Visitor Center with assistance from the Park Naturalist. Kayaks, PFDs, and paddles will be supplied. Registration is required. Participants must be 12 years or older. Registration for this program is required by emailing mtruesdale@pa.gov no later than noon on Friday, May 27. Jazz Concert on the Riverbank

Looking for an excuse to get outside on a beautiful spring evening? The Friends of Washington Crossing Park (PA) and the historic Newtown Theatre are teaming up to present a free outdoor jazz concert on Saturday, May 28 from 6 to 8 PM. The concert will be held on the banks of the Delaware River near the park’s Visitor Center. The Triple Ts, a jazz-fusion trio based in Philadelphia, will play a mix of original music and jazz standards. The band has played several times at the park and the theatre, in addition to touring the U.S. in support of its album, The Sessions: Vol 1. Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic dinner, chairs, and blankets. Alcohol is not permitted in the state park. Four-legged friends are welcome but must be leashed and under control at all times. No registration is required for this free concert. Rain date is Monday, May 30 at the same time.
