Thursday March 19, 2020
7:30 PM

The Yardley Historical Association will host an illustrated program, “A History of Inventing in New Jersey” on Thursday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m.  The program will be held at the Old Library by Lake Afton, 46 West Afton Avenue, Yardley, PA  19067.

Author Linda Barth will delve into groundbreaking, useful, fun, and even silly inventions and their New Jersey roots.  Many people are familiar with Thomas Edison’s “invention factory” in Menlo Park, where he patented the light bulb and the phonograph; yet many other ideas have grown in the Garden State.  New Jerseyans brought sound and music to movies and built the very first drive-in theater. In addition to the first cultivated blueberry, treats like ice cream cones and M&Ms are also Jersey natives.  The boardwalk, the Band-Aid, the vacuum cleaner, and professional baseball started there.
