Sunday May 27, 2018

Washington Crossing Historic Park will hold its annual Memorial Day observance on Sunday, May 27, beginning at 1 PM at the gravesite of Continental soldiers. The event is free and open to the public.
The gravesite is located near the Thompson-Neely House, about two miles south of New Hope at the intersection of Route 32 and Aquetong Road (1638 River Road, New Hope).
The observation will include a colonial color guard, the Old Barracks Fife & Drum Corps, Revolutionary War reenactors, the Guardians of the National Cemetery Firing Party, Daughters of the American Revolution, veterans, Boy Scouts and other honored guests.
Scott Anderson, U.S. Coast Guard Delaware Bay Sector Commander and Captain of the Philadelphia Port, will be the keynote speaker. Anderson oversees more than 750 active-duty, reserve and civilian personnel and works alongside 2,100 Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers who safeguard many of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware waterways, shorelines and out to 200 miles offshore.
During the event, American flags will be placed on the graves, which mark the resting places of soldiers who died during the Continental army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. Although no Americans were killed during the Delaware River crossing and the First Battle of Trenton, some soldiers succumbed to exposure, disease or previous injuries.
