Thursday October 13, 2022
12:00 PM

George Nakashima's search for his raison d'être took him around the world at the height of the Great Depression, into his mid-thirties. His seeker's journey continued through his family's imprisonment in a Western desert with 120,000 other people of Japanese ancestry. The film seeks to decode how his unique collection of esoteric experiences and philosophies brought him to discover a new way to honor great trees and lead a quietly spiritual life. His great love for natural wood and his experiences with modernism made him a woodworker still admired and influential to this day. Followed by Q&A with Mira Nakashima and filmmaker John Nakashima.
This event is a gift to the people of Bucks County from the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. NFP maintains the architecture and his collection of exceptional woodworks to study, uphold, and perpetuate the great spiritual traditions he embraced and integrated into his work. Additionally, they intend to build Altars of Peace and send them to all continents of the world as ecumenical seeds of peace planted for all humankind.
