Monument Bank Supports NAC Have a Heart’s Efforts to Fight ALS

The Newtown Athletic Club (NAC) Have a Heart Foundation is the latest recipient of a $500 donation from Monument Bank as the financial institution’s 10-month charitable giving initiative continues to support local organizations. The check presentation ceremony was held July 11, 2017 at Monument Bank’s Newtown branch. Funds have already been earmarked for Have a Heart’s efforts to raise money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research by participating in the upcoming Philadelphia Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.

NAC owner Jim Worthington founded the Have a Heart Foundation as a single advocacy and fundraising organization for the NAC’s many charitable efforts. In addition to fighting ALS, Have a Heart is advocating for the passage of a bill on the national level, the Right to Try Act. The bill would enable people who are terminally ill, including those with ALS, to use experimental drugs that have passed Phase 1 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) trials but have not been approved.

“This is a great example of a local business supporting a local organization,” said Worthington. “After reading about Monument Bank’s campaign in the newspaper, we couldn’t be more thrilled and appreciative to receive this generous donation. Our Newtown Team Quest 4 ALS has set an ambitious goal to raise $500,000 for ALS research in 2017, and this puts us one step closer to the finish line.”

The NAC Have a Heart Foundation operates within the NAC family fitness center at 120 Pheasant Run in Newtown, Pa. To learn more about the foundation’s fundraising programs and its advocacy for Right to Try legislation, or to donate, visit http://www.nachaveaheart.org
