Mandala Band Performs in “Music at St. Philip’s 2017” Series October 22

Mandala Band will perform the eighth concert of the Music at St. Philip’s 2017 season at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, in the historic St. Philip’s Episcopal Church at 10 Chapel Road, New Hope.

Mandala Band brings together accomplished instrumentalists and vocalists to create intricate world devotional music. They combine Indian, Turkish, Celtic and Gregorian chant music that evokes lofty cathedrals and echoing choral performances. Combined with the unique tones of a harmonium pump organ, their precise vocals produce a stunning, soaring sound.

Mandala has performed original music in churches, cathedrals, colleges and yoga studios on both coasts. While he holds advanced degrees in Western classical music, his music is multicultural in style and tailored for audience participation.  Drawing inspiration from Sufi zikr, Hindu kirtan and the Christian Gregorian chant tradition Mandala's music is a vivid illustration of a broadly multi-faith outlook

The October 22 concert will feature a special All Hallows program.

The next and last concert in the series will feature singer-songwriter Cat London (October 29). Previous performers in the Music at St. Philip’s 2017 season included violinist Alexandre Djokic, early-music vocalists Mostly Motets, cello and piano duo Noelle and Sebastian Grand, and singer-songwriter Tom Goss.

All the concerts are scheduled for Sundays at 3 p.m. Admission is free and the concerts are open to the public. Donations for the performers and St. Philip’s will be gratefully accepted.
